Storm Rising
Slowly the scaly, black body pushed forward vertebra after vertebra. The snake licked again and again to absorb all possible smells from the environment. She had come a long way. In the river she had to push against the current. And yet she continued on her way. A rumble could be heard in the distance as she pushed through the black iron bars. The storm came, approach faster than expected. Soon it would be pitch dark, even though it was still day. By then she must had climbed the mountain.
Out of nowhere a hand reached for the snake. Hissing, she tried to grab the arm that should have belonged to the hand, but it only covered in black fog. A second hand came in and grabbed the snake directly at the base of the head. The animal wriggled helplessly in the grip, but even the snake's powerful body could do nothing against its opponent's strength. There was a chuckle as the black mist slowly began to take shape. A pale, well-groomed face of a man became visible, with black eyes, long brown hair that was tied into a braid, and a long, narrow nose. He eyed the snake with amusement as his body slowly took shape. He was wearing a classy, dark jacket, the edges of which were embroidered with gold.
"This is very naughty Lavanta."
His voice was low, but still threatening. The snake wanted to snap at him again, and his grip tightened around her neck.
"Lavanta! You are in my realm. Show at least some courtesy."
For a moment, the man and the snake just starred at each other, then the snake's eyes began to change. A milky layer slid over the yellow and green pupils until they were completely covered.
"What do you want."
The voice that sounded from the snake seemed to be from a woman, but interwoven with the hissing sounds of the snake. The man smiled, exposing his pointed canine teeth for the first time.
"A good joke Lavanta. You know very well that it is part of our armistice, that I am not entering your realm, but neither do you come here. And that also applies to your little pet."
"She has her own will."
"She's your little demon. Keep her in check!"
The man bared his teeth ominously as he let out a dark growl.
"You don't scare me," the snake hissed.
"And you shouldn't underestimate me. I caught you even though it's daytime. Think about what I'm going to do with you at night."
"Is that an invitation?"
"It's a warning!"
With his last words, the man tore his arms apart. There was a smacking sound as the snake was torn in two.
