"Behind Blue Eyes" is a book that all fans of Ghost in the Shell, Blade Runner and Altered Carbon might find interesting. The thriller takes us into the year 2095. People live in a perfect society that fulfills all their wishes they have. Until they deviate from the norm. Anyone who does not follow the company's path is threatened with a visit from the Guardian Angels, a cyborg unit that was created to guarantee security and order, against both external and internal enemies.
Nephilim is one such cyborg. She's the perfect killer and has never known anything else. And she takes pride in protecting citizens and the corporation. But this view is called into question when it is suddenly separated from the all-controlling grid after an EMP attack. Capable of freely doing what she wants, doubts about the correctness of the system begin to grow in her.
The first chapters were a bit tough to read. This was mainly due to the fact that the building of the world took up a lot of space there. I would have liked the author to interweave these passages better with the story and leave out some information. Some information has also been repeated. After the world was established, the story pulled me deeper into it. The characters and the questions that were raised were interesting to follow. The moment in which Nephilim was released from the grid was particularly exciting to read.
Some passages seemed a bit forced to me for the course of the story, but it did not pull me out that much.
The outcome of the story creates an interesting ending for the continuation and rises the desire to know how the character's path will be continued. I see a lot of potential for the next part.
