Page Harper lives in a world where one day it became known that there are supernatural beings. And society is still sorting out these things. That mess can be found in her life too, especially since she still has to deal with the aftermath of her ex-husband Jax being a fae. While she tries to keep her cleaning business afloat and to get along with the PI werewolf next door, Jax manages to bet her house in a game of poker and embroil her in a murder case. From then on, a chain of events unfolds, which completely messes up Page life. From a drag queen, as a roommate, to a pregnant vampire, Page approaches everything in her direct, charming, very brusque way.
The description of the books sounded like a fun trip to me and I wouldn't be disappointed. It was fun to read the chaos in Page life, even if it was a bit over the top at times. Still, it goes very well with the way the books are written. I've read books 1-3 and want to give a general opinion on the series as the books are a direct continuation of one another. You end up on very mean cliffhangers, which at least worked very well for me.
While the first book took a bit to arouse my interest, I was invested in the world and characters after the first book. This is probably because it took me some time to find my way into the world.
I found the books pleasant to read because they have a humorous tone despite the sometimes very adult topics. Page is a fighter and that comes through in the way the story is told. Many of the supporting characters are annoying at the beginning (since they are also annoying for Page) but gradually they grow dear to you. And nothing beats Page's new roommate. Darron / Daphne is a wonderful character and an oasis of calm in all this chaos.
And I definitely have a thing for the werewolf Nico.
By the second book, I was already up in the world and wanted to know what happens next. This time it's about a vampire killer (already featured in the first book) who, for whatever reason, likes Page. While she tries to find out more, Page suddenly has a pregnant vampire at her door and at the same time has to deal with the fact that she has problems with her business. It was a good continuation, which brought the characters even closer to me and at the same time expanded the world in which they live. It felt a little cringy in places, but there were so few places that I could overlook them.
The third book focuses more on Page's new client 'Charms' and a robbery that happens in the brothel. But also her personal life, like her relationship with Liam and Nico, take up space. At the same time, it was satisfactory to see how information and events from before were suddenly put in a different light or played a role again. And the end makes me anxious to wait for the sequel. All in all, the third book for me was the strongest in the series so far and I'm really excited to see how it will continue.
Oh and if you don't like puns, then this is not a book for you.
