It will be very difficult for me to write this review because
I LOVE IT!!!!!
It's far from a perfect book, but the story, characters, and subject matter just struck a chord with me. But let's start at the beginning."Chasing Ghost" is the beginning of a series about Quentin Strange, a photographer whose life seems to be piling up inexplicable events. He and his colleague Kat are supposed to report an article about a ghost hunt in an old property. It not only shakes the house's past, but also Quentins own. Fortunately, not only does he have Kat, but also the good-sending and seductive writer Will, who delve into the dark history of the house with him.I really enjoyed immersing myself in the world of Quentin. The group of characters thrown together may seem a bit clichéd at times, but I still think it's very well done. The conversations between Quentin and Will were particularly exciting to read. It was a little obvious how captivated Quentin was of Will, but the development of their relationship was one of the best aspects of the story.
Quentin was brought more and more out of his comfort zone over time, which in the end leads to good character development. But at the same time it is really not an easy path.I was a little disappointed with the climax, but I think it was more because of my expectations than really the story or the characters. Where other ghost stories might throw every horror on you, this one still stays grounded and actually covers what every good ghost story should contain:
The guilt of the living and the tragedy of life
The last point of criticism I have left is that sometimes one aspect of a character seems to suddenly develop in the opposite direction. I do not know whether this is because the story was perhaps not fully developed on this point or whether it could also be because everything was described from Quentin's point of view. To be honest, that was more of a problem at the beginning.
As I said, despite the criticism I have of the book, I love it. Anyone who is not averse to ghost stories and romances should give the book a chance.
Now, excuse me, I have to haunt the author to find out when the sequel will be out.
