In the second book in the ‘Invisible Entente’ series, the focus is on Gabriel Mulligan, half gorgon, half fae. Isolated from many by his legacy, he has been running a detective agency for six months with the desire to help the people of New Haven, even with less normal cases. In the middle of a raging blizzard, he is drawn into a murder case that will challenge him with many tough decisions. And confronted him with his own fears.
I really liked the story about Gabriel. It was easy to empathize with him and watch his character develop. Even though I could predict many twists and turns of the story, I have never lost interest in the story. The description of the environment, the atmosphere and Gabriel’s thoughts captivated me enough to keep reading. This also applies to the interactions between the characters. I enjoyed reading how the dynamics unfolded on the pages.
It was very nice to meet characters from the previous book again. I would also like to emphasize that you did not read the previous stories to understand the plot. And even knowing the informations of the first book, it didn’t feel like things were being repeated too much. I wanted to know more in the end and hope that Gabriel will appear again in another book soon.
While the pace was good most of the time, some parts were a bit too much back and forth for me. And while I was very fond of Gabriel, he didn’t drag me with him one hundred percent of the time. However, these are just small things.
I really like the world Krista Walsh created and the way she writes the books. The self-contained stories, which are linked to one another, already make me look forward to the next books. I’m curious to see which characters and stories will be expanded.
