This wonderful story about a young lady who has the ability to sense jewels takes you to England at the time of the Napolean Wars. Elinor has fled London with her family after an unpleasant jewel theft incident damaged her reputation. She did not expect that she would meet a little vampiri out in the country and that the search for missing jewels would endanger her brother and her.
The thought that crossed my mind the most while reading was the comparison to 'pride and prejudice'. Not in terms of content, but in the way the story and the characters are written. It was perfect for me because I love Jane Austen's book and the author has woven magic and the search for a thief into her story. I never got bored as I followed Elinor and Miss Zooth as they deepen their acquaintance and try to find out what was going on on the Devon coast. The other supporting characters were also interesting and contributed to the mood.
The magic is woven into the world in such a way that it doesn't look too fantastic and I'm excited to see where the author will take us with her next books. For this book, however, a brief look behind the curtain was enough, with everything that was going on.
All I can say is that I really enjoyed the book. I acutally looking forward to reading it again in the future.
